This weekend the first BAD: Sydney Crime Writers Festival kicks off. See the website for details. One session we highly recommend is a panel discussion of crime on film and TV. The panel is first-rate. Sue Turnbull, who reviews crime fiction for the Sydney Morning Herald, Graeme Blundell, who does crime books and TV for the Australian, and legendary screenwriter Peter Gawler (Underbelly etc.) provide insights into the explosion of high quality crime stories on our screens over the past decade. That’s at 4.00pm this Sunday, 3 September.
It’s fitting that the first session on the same day, at 10.00am, stars Detective Inspector Gary Jubelin. Gary was the central character in Underbelly: Badness.
