On 5 June Frederic Martel will be interviewed by the ABC’s Geraldine Doogue at his only public appearance in Sydney. Martel is a leading French journalist, author of new book In the Closet of the Vatican .
The book claims many senior Catholic clergy are practicing homosexuals. This – perversely – has encouraged homophobia and created a culture of secrecy that has restrained action against pedophiles. Martel’s book, which helps explain the widespread phenomenon of child abuse by Catholic priests, has been reviewed and created controversy around the world.
There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience, and book sales and signings afterwards. This event is being organised by BAD: Sydney Crime Writers Festival because of our support for the intelligent public discussion of crime.
5 June, 6.00pm to 7.00pm, Pitt St Uniting Church, 264 Pitt Street, Sydney
